Listend to "
Happy Nation". Liked it very much and really appreciate it for its lyrics. My initial reaction was how come in India we don't have such brilliant compositions. I mean something which has the capacity of moving not just the person, not just the people, but the whole country. I even supported my claim by thinking about the songs like "
Its my life", "
In the end", and movies such as "independence day", "Jurassic park", "Matrix","The Sixth sense" and many others
But soonafter I realized that may be I am being cynical about our own abilities and achievements. I realized that abilities are more of an attribute of inidividuals rather than a property of a country. Its a different matter though that a few countries have mastered the art of bringing out the best of the talented people in tehir country.
Anyways, as expected i was able to find out some of the magnum opus by our own people in India. I was easily able to recall some songs which would have caused a stir among the countrymen during their release and I am sure these still have the power to make the country move when needed. here are some.....
"Ae watan ..ae watan ..."
"Ae mere watan ke logon "
"
everything gonna be alright....jab tak dil mein hai faith ..." --- I find this one very similar and stimulating as "its my life"
I am sure there are many more...
but when thought of picking my favourite ( in the line making an impact), the one I decided to zero in on was "
chithi aayee hai chitthi aaye hai. Chitthi aayee hai"
I just feel it was quite important as an issue to be touched upon in those 80's. May be not so important from the point of view of IITs that spend so much of money on making a smart engineer out of an intelligent brat. I mean you raise that point and people will always counterfeit the argument by saying that you give us the right environment (salary, security and blah blah blah) in India and we will "think of" coming back. But it was certainly important from the point of view of parents who put their whole life in making the career of their children and never complain about the VERY SAME environment they had to bring up their children in :) :)
Well, No, I AM NOT AGAINST the people moving out of India and settling out there. I can defend very well the migrants' side of story around the topic "brain drain"[1]. But I just feel theme was important and uniquely related to India. And this score with superb voice of Pankaj udhas comprehended all about the topic very well.
Not sure though about how many people did this song really help them decide to come back to India. :) :) :)
Willing to listen any interesting stories around this .....

[1] Let me accept that news of UK raising the education limit for work VISAs to M-tech level for engineers brings a gloominess of feeling like India lost another match to Australia. But certainlut just that -- only to Autralia, not to Pakistan. I mean a kind of punch which gets down easily with a bunch of peanuts and sweet lime soda.
